EconomicsAmerica® Schools
The EconomicsAmerica program helps schools set standards, train teachers, develop curriculum, and evaluate results so that every student leaves twelfth grade with a basic level of economic literacy. Econ Illinois, through its affiliation with the (national) Council for Economic Education, has available classroom instructional materials for all grade levels so that schools can integrate the teaching of appropriate concepts within the curriculum from kindergarten through twelfth grade.
Through the Centers for Economic Education throughout the state, Econ Illinois offers professional development courses and workshops to enable teachers to implement the use of economic education materials effectively in their classrooms. These materials and programs are geared to helping schools meet state and national academic standards for economics.
EconomicsAmerica® is a comprehensive school curriculum program offered by Econ Illinois and its affiliated university-based Centers. This program is based on the belief that all children should be able to benefit fully from and contribute meaningfully to the economic system in which they live. It is the mission of Econ Illinois - Illinois Council on Economic Education to help all children in Illinois become effective participants in the economy, enabling them to benefit themselves and society. The EconomicsAmerica curriculum will help every student leave twelfth grade with the knowledge and skills that will make them:
- productive members of the work force, as employees or entrepreneurs
- responsible citizens
- knowledgeable consumers
- prudent savers and investors
- effective participants in the global economy
- competent decision-makers throughout their lives
