Econ Illinois:
International Programs
Uruguayan educators visit Econ Illinois!
December 7-9, 2009, three educators from Uruguay visit the Econ Illinois offices as part of the Council for Economic Education’s EconomicsInternational program.
As the world’s economy becomes increasingly interdependent, Econ Illinois strongly encourages classroom teachers to include a global perspective in their teaching of economics in the classroom. To support this focus, Econ Illinois provides Global Economics and Finance Mini-Grants; encourages teachers to apply for participation in the Council for Economic Education's EconomicsInternational® programs (study tours; training of writers); and supports an ongoing International Classroom Partnership program.
EconomicsInternational is a comprehensive program of the Council for Economic Education that provides opportunities for U.S. teachers to expand their knowledge of the global economy. EconomicsInternational provides training and assistance to teachers in countries with emerging market economies to help them effectively teach market economics. As part of these programs, U.S. teachers have opportunities to participate in study tours, training of writers programs, and international classroom partnerships. These programs have served over 2 million students in more than 20 countries, and are now expanding to additional countries on other continents.
Funding for the EconomicsInternational program comes through the Cooperative Education Exchange Program of the U.S. Department of Education.
The EconomicsInternational program has produced numerous publications and materials for use in U.S. classrooms to broaden the global perspective. The EconomicsInternational web site contains up-to-date information on programs and publications.
